John M. Katona, 80, of Temperance, MI, died Friday, December 8, 2017 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Born February 19, 1937, in Dearborn, Michigan, he was the son of Louis and Antoinette (Cudzik) Katona. John proudly served in the US Army, he married Margaret Urish on October 22, 1966. John was employed as a welder for GM Powertrain for 22 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI. John enjoyed golfing, horses and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; daughters, Deanna Goley and Krista (Robert) Kochendoerfer; sisters, Louise Wendyger, Marion Christian, Barbara Aldighieri and Lorraine Maxwell; grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob and Johnathen and great granddaughter, Emma. John was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Larry, and infant brother Tommy; Sister, Dorothy, and son in law, Brett. Visitation will be from 11 – 2 pm and 4-9 pm on Monday, December 11, 2017, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue (at Donna) Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
